Submitted to SkillsIQ (March 2021).

The existing education and training of employees in the aged care and disability sectors is inadequate. It fails to equip workers with the knowledge and skills needed to understand changes to anatomy and health resulting from ageing. This leaves them unable to identify health concerns common in older Australians and people with disability.

To address this gap, a standardised module is needed to better educate the aged care and disability sector workers on the impact of ageing on health and physiology. This will allow workers to:

  • better support the elderly and disabled population
  • understand changes to anatomy and physiology resulting from ageing or disability
  • provide optimal care on an individual basis
