Submitted to the Royal Commission into Violence, Abuse, Neglect and Exploitation of People with Disability (March 2020).
Many people with disability living in group homes experience neglect related to inadequate provision of food, fluids or nutrition care.
While some group homes perform well in terms of meeting the needs of people with disability, in many situations this is not the case. More needs to be done to ensure equitable access to adequate food, fluids and nutrition care for all people with disability, including those living in group homes.
Our submission calls for the Royal Commission to ensure nutrition and food are not overlooked in the care or support of people with disability in group homes.
