The Australian Commission on Safety and Quality in Health Care (the Commission) requested feedback to shape the third edition of the National Safety and Quality Health Service Standards (NSQHS).
This edition streamlines the previous eight standards into three standards including, clinical governance, person-centred practice, and safer clinical systems, to better support an integrated, whole-of-system approach to health care across Australia.
Dietitians Australia welcomes the Commission’s effort to strengthen the link between clinical governance, workforce capability, and patient outcomes to promote a single, integrated system for safe healthcare delivery in Australia. Dietitians Australia calls for further amendment to the draft standards so that it recognises the integral role of nutrition and hydration in improving patient outcomes and supporting a person-centred approach to care.
Dietitians Australia's detailed feedback and suggested amendments to the Commission’s draft are stated within this submission.
