Submitted to Food Standards Australia New Zealand (FSANZ) (June 2022).

The FSANZ P1208 Proposal aims to revise and clarify standards relating to infant formula.

In this submission we make 16 recommendations. The most critical is to exclude modified protein, low lactose and lactose free products from the Infant Formula Product category. Instead they should be placed in the Special Medical Purpose Products for Infants category.

We also recommend that preparation guidelines should be standardised and use language and diagrams consistent with World Health Organization guides.

Similarly, feeding guides should be standardised and consistent with the National Health and Medical Research Council's Infant Feeding Guidelines.
