Submitted to South Australian Parliament Social Development Committee.

The South Australian Parliament Social Development Committee has opened an inquiry to examine the extent of hunger among children and young people attending preschool and school in South Australia, its academic and social impacts, and the effectiveness of the state’s school breakfast program. The inquiry will also examine other successful meal programs and consider other related issues.

In this submission, Dietitians Australia advocates for the expansion of the South Australian school breakfast program and the establishment of a school lunch program. We also call for the embedding of nutrition into public health and education strategies.
