If I have high cholesterol, can I eat foods with cholesterol?
It was once thought that eating foods high in cholesterol caused high blood cholesterol levels. We now know that eating foods high in saturated fat is a bigger risk than the level of cholesterol in foods.
To keep your cholesterol down you should limit foods high in saturated fats such as:
- Fatty take-away meals
- Cakes, biscuits and pastries
- Butter, cream and icecream
- Fatty meats
Foods that have cholesterol in them like eggs and prawns can be enjoyed as part of a healthy diet.
