Dietitians and the multidisciplinary team
The following role statements outline the relationships between dietitians, other allied health professionals or support staff, and the importance of a multidisciplinary approach to patient care.
The purpose of this paper is to:
- Clarify the roles and responsibilities of Credentialled Diabetes Educators and Accredited Practising Dietitians with respect to the delivery of diabetes self management and nutrition education and
- Encourage all diabetes service providers to understand, value and respect the roles and expertise of individual team members.
Scope of Practice – Support Staff in Nutrition and Dietetic Services
This document defines the scope of practice for support workers (i.e. nutrition assistants and dietetic assistants) who provide assistance to dietitians. It includes a framework for best practice models for support staff in nutrition and dietetic services.

Position Statement- Oral Health and Nutrition
This is a joint statement between the Dietitians Australia (DAA) and Dental Health Services Victoria (DHSV). There is a life-long synergy between nutrition and oral health. Dietitians and other nutrition professionals should work collaboratively with oral health professionals in promoting good oral health practices.
