Dietitians Australia welcomes the Albanese Government’s reaffirmed commitment to improving food and nutrition for aged care residents, announced this week.To achieve this, the Government must introduce mandatory malnutrition screening in all residential and in-home aged care settings. An Accredited Practising Dietitian must be engaged for annual on-site menu and mealtime audits.

An animation highlighting the diverse ways that dietitians improve lives has been released by Dietitians Australia to mark the start of Dietitians Week.

Following concerns about yesterday’s Residential Aged Care Quality Indicators report, Dietitians Australia is calling on the Australian Government to implement urgent measures to increase accountability in the nation’s residential aged care sector.

Released January 2022 - In the lead up to the 2022-23 Federal Budget, the Government seeks feedback from community, businesses and organisations about what should be included. Dietitians Australia highlighted 13 priorities for the 2022-23 Federal Budget. Focus areas included health policy, aged care, the Medicare Benefits Schedule, food-based dietary guidelines and rural healthcare.

Dietitians Australia is urging the strained aged care sector to add food and nutrition to its priorities throughout the current crisis.
