Disruptions from COVID-19 have caused food supply chain issues in many parts of Australia. Here we have listed food replacement options to prepare nutritious meals during food shortages for residents in aged care.

Dietitians Australia is strongly urging the Australian Government’s taskforce for COVID-19 deaths to investigate the direct link between malnutrition and the severity of the virus.

After being unsure of the prices at the National Press Club address yesterday, Dietitians Australia is pleased to advise the Prime Minister that a 1L bottle of milk and standard loaf of bread currently costs around $5.75. This is on par with the average spend on food per resident in aged care which is $6 per day.

Released August 2021 - Submitted to the Department of Health, Dietitians Australia has provided feedback addressing the proposed quarterly food and nutrition reporting fields for residential aged care.

Released November 2021 - The Australian Capital Territory Primary Health Network (ACT PHN) has reviewed its previous Needs Assessments. Dietitians Australia has submitted feedback to the draft Needs Assessment as part of the community consultation.

Released March 2019 - Our submission discusses the importance of nutrition in the care of older Australians. We have given 30 recommendations to the Government for nutrition care in the aged care system.

Released November 2020 - We consider it vital that the aged care system is changed to improve the availability of allied health services, including dietetic services and nutrition support. Dietitians Australia is supportive of many key recommendations given by the Counsel Assisting to the Royal Commission into Aged Care Quality and Safety.

Released June 2020 - Access to accredited practising dietitians (APDs) in the residential aged care system was decreased due to visitor restrictions during the pandemic. Our submission discusses implications of this and our recommendations for future including access to telehealth services.
