Dietitians Australia calls for the government to immediately cease the roll out of the independent assessment program as part of its proposed reforms to the National Disability Insurance Scheme (NDIS), in a bid to prevent, avoidable nutrition-related deaths of vulnerable Australians.

Sent April 2021 - Dietitians Australia wrote to congratulate Senator the Hon Linda Reynolds on her appointment as Minister of the National Disability Insurance Scheme (NDIS) and to highlight the role dietitians play in supporting NDIS participants. A similar letter was also sent to Shadow Minister for the NDIS, the Hon Bill Shorten MP.

Sent May 2021 - With the planned reforms to the National Disability Insurance Scheme (NDIS) causing widespread concern, Dietitians Australia wrote to the Hon Bill Shorten MP, Shadow Minister for the NDIS, requesting a meeting to discuss how the reforms would affect nutritionally vulnerable individuals.

Sent June 2021 - Dietitians Australia wrote to the Hon Mark Butler MP, Shadow Minister for Health and Ageing, and Ged Kearney MP, Shadow Assistant Minister for Health and Ageing, to request a meeting to discuss the role dietitians play in health and wellbeing. Also the recommendations around food and nutrition from the Aged Care Royal Commission.

Sent July 2021 - Dietitians Australia sent letters to politicians around Australia outlining our concerns over the planned reforms to the National Disability Insurance Scheme (NDIS).

Released March 2021 - The National Disability Insurance Scheme (NDIS) requires reform to improve the health and wellbeing of Australians with a disability. APDs should help assess entry and access to the scheme. They should also provide health and nutrition care within the NDIS, as part of a commitment to integrated healthcare.

Released January 2021 - The Federal Budget should allocate funds dedicated to improving and protecting the nutritional health and wellbeing of Australians, acknowledging the importance of Accredited Practising Dietitians (APDs) in this area.

Released December 2020 - Our position for greater oversight, accountability, education and support for the provision of food and nutrition for all Australians with disability.
